Overview
In the feed mill industry, maintaining a stock of high-wear spare parts is critical to preventing costly downtime. Parts are typically categorized by the machinery they support — grinding, mixing, and pelleting.
Recommended Inclusion Rates
| Hammer mill screens | Annually (or as needed) — clogging, visible damage |
|---|---|
| Pellet dies | 3–12 months — uneven pellet size, deformation |
| Roller shells | 6–12 months — cracking, reduced pressure |
| Bearings | 12 months — noise, vibrations, overheating |
| Gears | 12–18 months — chipped teeth, misalignment |

Hammer mill parts
- Screens / sieves — control particle size; carbon or stainless steel; apertures from 0.6 mm to 4.0 mm.
- Hammers / beaters — core crushing components; round, square, or triangular shapes; high-manganese or alloy steel.
Pellet mill parts
- Ring dies — shape feed into pellets; check for even wear and deformation.
- Roller shells — press ingredients through the die; corrugated (open or closed end), helical, and dimpled types.
- Cutting knives — ensure consistent pellet length.
General components
- Bearings & gears — crucial for smooth rotation; require regular lubrication to prevent overheating and vibration.
- Conveyor belts & augers — used in material handling and transportation.
